Serpentine Sackler Gallery and Red 136

The Weight of the World.

At the Serpentine Sackler Gallery last week I saw a surprisingly colourful artist displaying - the exhibition was called The Weight of the World.

In fact to label Etel Adnan as a 'Artist' is perhaps an understatement -still  going strong at 91 she's also a multi-lingual writer of books and poetry.

The Arabic aspect of her heritage is clear in many of the works - bold colours and strong shapes.
Looks simple?

A well laid out show

Projections too

There's quite a volume of work on show at the Magazine- Etel has worked in photography and film too - I liked the folded items shown in cabinets as well as Screens working in a similar vein.

I liked the picture below which for me felt  as though it had been influenced by Kandinsky.

Frustratingly many of Etel's works were the classically 'untitled' - which gives so little away.
Bolt colours are a bit of a calling card from Etel Adnan.

That's decorative
