Being Liberal on Religon (15)

I'm minded (as they say)  to look at the project that comes after 365 Front Doors (which is a bit of a successor to my Final Leap ) to be something that is not set as a year or to be quite so visual - I'm hoping to be more transparent and clear about the goals - rather than finding them as I proceed.

Judaism - I guess it wasn't always able to be  Liberal

Religion and Judaism

Part of my aim is to (for me) understand the sweep of organised  faith.

As far as I can tell so far  many of the major religions Judaism is the 'root' of course this is well documented but perhaps is not shared so easily between different faith followers.

Judaism dates back about 3,500 years and Abraham is the figure who starts the whole thing having been selected by God who by dint of his 'true heart' was chosen to lead the Jewish nation and faith.

it is possible to interpret the religions of Islam and Chrisitanity of off-shoots of Judaism.

There are issues around Jewish identity -and a clear answer to the question are Jews part of an ethnic group or a faith has some caveats. (Look here to see some public names who have chosen to be part of the Jewish religion)

So to be brief it seems that following the Jewish Religion (Judaism)  is a matter of  choice but converting for those not born into the faith is quite an ordeal but many have done this.
Next it'll be over £25 now it's £24.19

Ethnically in fact it seems that there are; of the roughly 12 million Jews worldwide quite a range of sub-groups, the two major groups are those  with (Northern) European roots  (Ashkenazim)  with around 80% and those who have a link to Southern Europe (Sephardic) there is a third smaller group associated with the Middle East  ( a marginal group in some respects -Mizrahim).

I'm sure there's going to be a lot more on this topic  in the months to come.

Front Doors

Again in Kensington and another very beautiful front door -it could have come from Rural France.

I'm now thinking of creating a series of calendar prints around these (and last years) photos.

A  picture from my weekly visit to Kensington

A door that could have come out of the French Countryside - it seems reasonable to associate it with Eden.

Caution and Care (5)

£6.22 and the fund grows
The dynamic between excitement and boredom  or danger and safety can lead us to be reckless but the idea that we all have something to offer means in normal situations we care far too much for the easy life and don't help others as much as we might.

What a marvellous example of helping others is offered by Sue Green (of Ealing) who is honoured this New Year for over 30 Years with the Samaritans, she's now an MBE  - Sue also helps raise funds for various charities by her organisation of the sale of Christmas cards each year in Ealing.

Faith and Religion

Guru Gobind Singh was the tenth Guru and an important figure in Sikhism - his birth is celebrated on various dates in the 'modern' calendar as it's 'attached' to the Hindu calendar it slips and slides- this year it's today (but also in December on Christmas Day) .

Gobind's leadership as well as making some restrictions for followers  was instrumental in the religion treating men and women equally.

Front Doors

Oddly yesterday I made an error and got the wrong number -this though is a better version and enables me to use ther street used earlier  for number 6 - hope you're not too confused.

Colebrooke is derived from Cool Brook which is rather nice.

Another day
This doesn't look the greatest - Colebrook Avenue W13

Thanks Nationwide (3)

Thanks Nationwide - seems slightly odd that they should make a gift to me for making my life easier with their credit card - received today notice of just over £13 for using it in the last year.

Better than the average bank
Now £3.57

Perhaps I should add it to my new camera a fund?

Faith and  Religion

formerly January 2nd was the Optional day for the naming of Jesus - no more it's now January 3rd - the name Jesus is still used as a first name in many Spanish speaking countries .

It's interesting to see that there are many different versions of the name around the world and that it's related to 'deliverance'.

Front Doors

Here is number 3 and it's Landscape in nearby Rosemount Road.

Only (a long) 'stone's throw' from home

I have found that Rosemount as well as being a name of an Australian Wine is the name of a plantation house in Alabama (USA)

#3 - I like this one- I wonder what year it dates from

The New Year (1)

Okay so 2017 is with us and I'm enthusiastic about it ..

amongst other things....
First £1 - See the equivalent later

Yesterday I saw a Youtube review of the Canon G7 Mark II by Vlogger Michaela (below) - I thought she did a very good job, I'm not sure if Canon do anything to reward her (or others who do similar) but good job Michaela.

Following the review I  have decided I'd like this for 2018 (or before) -

What I'm going to do is put in at least £1 per day and record this too - it's a sort of equivalence record and once I reach the amount the camera costs (be interesting to see how the price changes too best I've seen so far is about £460 at eglobal central ) I'll buy it!

Faith & Religion

I mentioned a few days back the religious/faith project  I'm carrying out, as well as the Circumcision Day the 1st marks the Japanese  Ganjitsu festival- it's been running since around 1873 and is a family time (around 3 days in duration) when many visit Shinto Shrines or Buddhist Temples.

I'm not sure if this Shrine is one that I can visit in London 2018

January 1st is also the last day of Hanukkah - the Jewish festival associated with Sanctified Oil - typically families spend time together, there are gifts as well as prayers and hymns. (in 2018 it'll be on December 10th)

Front Doors

Already seeing that this project isn't the walk in the park it seemed - I like this though, Wimborne sounds a bit like Tim Bourne.

Miserable day and I used my Canon SX 280 HS which is clearly not as good as the G16

Landscape view

And it's in W13
