Travelling Cinema (96)

Really enjoyed the travelling cinema visit yesterday - incredibly kind guy let us in despite us being 2 days late!!

A reminder of film 

It's a couple of years since we'd been and they've re-located to the location of the old (and new) Ealing Cinema. 

[And when I got my PictureofTheWeek  of it published in the local paper.]


And it's also quite a while since I've actually been to the pictures and the film we went to see was a smasher too.

Way in

Hidden Figures (based on a true story) was a very moving tale told incredibly well a great cast and marvellous direction moved me to tears on several occasions.

All about the Cold War, NASA responding to USSR space supremacy  and the terrible treatment of segregated America I'm not sure what awards the film has won but it deserves (to my mind) more than a few.

Ealing's Bond street of the future and Broadway Centre's screen

So work is underway on the new 'Cinema Quarter' in Ealing and it'll be sad to see the Pop Up Shops in the 'Old YMCA' building vacated (especially the one I've used).

Filmworks seems to be the working title of the development 

With all the Photoshop and talented graphic's technicians what used to be known as The 'Artist's Impressions' are really getting quite good.

So between Hotel Xanadu and the Spanish Restaurant will be new 

In fact the building next to Hotel Xanadu which used to be part of TVU/University of West London already looks empty at ground floor - so I expect work will start soon.

Talking of screens the big one outside the library is still not in use but looking from the back fairly clear that it'll be showing something soon.

I don't know if it'll be advertising or a Cinema project - we'll have to wait and see.

Ealing cinema, Housing and the Arts

A peep today -
(not the Egyptian Pyramids) 

Today I had a peep behind the hoardings at the site of the old /new Cinema site in Ealing.

Well I suppose the fact that work has started on the Cinema project is good news (it's going to be I fear now that developers St Georges have had changes to the planning permission it'll be  more about high profit housing than Cinema and Arts.).

If you want to make sure that local p[eople get some 'real' facilities' the Campaign for Ealing Performance and Arts Centre CEPAC needs your support (and perhaps) help - they're working to see that not everything is about commercial outcomes.

More on the subject of housing soon (it'll be connected with the removal of 'valued' and ' historic'  Allotments then).

Ealing Cinema still looking a distant reality and Red 80

Still no cinema being built  on the old site in Ealing

Sad to see that the Ealing Cinema development is still looking some was off and it appears to be residential-y  heavy with the usual retail adornments.


The plan is now for St George PLC who have built the 'mega development' in Ealing where once stood council offices - the  dealings seem to be more about making the maximum profit from proximity to the new Crossrail service than improving the cultural life in the borough.

Pop Up Shop visitors

Plenty of people who have visited the Bond Street Pop Up while I have been there and wanted to talk about their own creative endeavours - it's fascinating to find out something about people  -the lady below was a pleasure to talk to and offered her own insights - happy to be part of the theme too.

The BEAT venues shown within

She spoke about Synesthesia (a surprising and long  list of  some famous people with the condition here).

 Synesthesia  is a description of a sort of interference between different senses - people see music for example  I had heard that the Russian abstract artist Kandinsky  had this - more interesting (and new to me) is the colour version Chromesthesia 

I hope that this lady and other interesting and interested individuals makes it to the BEAT w/e's  my venue is  at  (Orchard Cafe W13)..
