Well Done Pho & Local Autumn Colours

On my local restaurant round up yesterday  I failed to mention Pho in New Broadway - they do lovely Vietnamese style food and yesterday, marking their one year anniversary  they made a fantastic  gesture to the local Foodbank - well done to them.

So after too tours of duty in the Bond Street Pop Up - I've realised that this is the road if you need to look beautiful or have something to eat - it's got 3 places for Pizza personal favourite and a Red - Nando's.

Take a walk down Ealing's Bond Street and you've got a road made up of many eateries from the Grilled meat  of Flaming Cow to the delicacies of Pho - it's a right old 'Smorgasbord' - when you're tired or Bond Street W5 you're tired of eating.

Need more customers?

Having spoke with Mike of  Park + Bridge I've got some idea of what High Street rents can be along with staff these fixed costs can be tough for new and existing businesses.

Yesterday at Pho for lunch food (it's becoming popular with us)  and the service and food was fine but perhaps worrying that there were about as many staff as customers at around 2:00 pm on a fine Summer Saturday this could be bad news for long term future.

A great thing about BBC Radio iPlayer is that it can bring to your attention radio programmes that are away from your geographic location - I (just) managed to catch BBC Scotland's 'Memories are made of this' part of a series of programmes called Brainwaves.

It (of course) was a long way from answering fully  the questions of how the brain works but it did help me recognise some of the salient issues in investigating memory  and focused me on the dichotomy around the brains physical and 'spiritual' makeup.

It seems that we now know that thoughts are translated into a physical change in the brain.

A concept and sensory experience such as a the smell of cheap perfume or a certain song really does trigger a reaction that can interact with the synapses and other brain hardware  - endlessly fascinating and I'm it's my intention to carry out some personal experiments to recover some of my own past.

We visit the new Pho in ealing and Red 316

On Saturday having visited the recently open 'Pho' in New Broadway we thought it only fair to give another new nearby Vietnamese restaurant in Ealing called Pho Saigon - it seems that Vietnamese is (literally) flavour du jour.

Very impressed with the use of mirrors which really do give a great feeling of space and certainly this restaurant was quite different from a slick chain and much more of a family feel.

Having said that I'm reminded what a risky business the restaurant enterprise is- Ealing has many places to eat (and I anticipate more as the expensive Dicken's Yard largely residential development becomes inhabited) - if you're not happy with the one you visit you probably won't go back - Pho Saigon might be more authentic than the competition and it  looked like  people of a Vietnamese heritage were serving and dining but to make money it needs to be  attractive to a diverse group of Londoners.

The premises were previously a restaurant/grill and not vacant for very long, the prior tenants didn't trade for very long and there are many other places to eat within a short walk.

With a 50% discount (as anticipated - this seems to  be a requirement for new eateries)  on their food the bill was very acceptable but I'm not sure when we'll go back with the normal full prices.
