end of the Natural World?

Joost competition

There’s more than one company trying to achieve the TV on the PC solution, Joost’s competition’s called Babelgum read about it here. Silvio Scaglia is the Italian mover and shaker behind it and he’s one of the richest guys in the world (746th in monetary terms).

The end of the Natural World?

We were in Kingston on Saturday, it’s a good place for shopping (if that’s not an oxymoron) and we got some right old bargains at the ‘Natural World’ shop. I got a grow a your own ‘Salsa’ kit.

It looked a bit like a closing down sale the Ealing branch went a couple of months back, I seriously hope the business hasn’t gone for a Burton as they’re not perfect but they do have some vaguely stimulating things for youngsters which aren’t about computers or violence. Let me know if you have info on this. (it's not looking good from their website.)

bid for the kids

BBC and YouTube
The announcement that BBC has done a content deal with YouTube provides a level of credibility to the site it could only have dreamt of a year or so ago, it’ll be interesting to see if Joost can pull any similar rabbit from its’ hat as the battle rages on Video content on your PC.
The BBC feels that it has a problem with the young who are not watching/listening to enough of aunties’ content and as a result the current DG (Director General) Mark Thompson has been promoting a ‘Martini vision’ not blurred by the drink but taking a concept from the drink advert so loved by Hoodies all over the nation –Anytime, Anyplace, Anywhere etc.
I think the BBC has to start looking at what it’ll be post the licence fee but not sure that this is the way to go.
Sale of Stuff
I'm still offloading items on Ebay that I wonder why I bought. here's the latest - plenty more to come over the weeks ahead.

Joost in time

Joost
Apart from all the excitement (?) over BT Vision, Virgin Media and Sky on demand the new kid on the block Joost should not be underestimated (which I’d already done) –they’ve gone and signed a deal with Viacom and are rumoured to be talking to the UK’s ITV, the guys have a form on the disruptive technology front and are looking like recidivists – get across it now.
PSB
There’s a growing head of steam that’s saying the BBC licence fee should be top sliced and OFCOM’s PSB might be an acceptable way of keeping UK media landscape exciting –push for it if you can.
UK recording giant taken over by USA's Warner?
EMI to be bought out by Warners, my view; don’t hold your breath, the company has serious assets, a great UK heritage and just needs a top flight management team to be installed to enable them to exploit what they have.
