1. Practise sketching the outline of an everyday object using a pencil.
so first exercise is to sketch using a pencil, I choose a pencil first 4B - I choose to have 6 attempts initially.
Then look at the object an apple.
1) Idea is to refine the approach and I reckon the main thing here is to learn something about looking, realisation is that an apple is not round and I will at this stage ignore all but the actual outline.
2) Should not be tempted to merely refine (and reference) the first effort but to look again - left hand side is improved but right hand side to far up top quartile.
3).will start with left hand curve, then right hand curve -top which is almost flat and bottom - almost flat too- quite like this but needs to be slightly narrower and less circular.
4) this effort feels better but have used eraser more - feeling is that first line is important to establish the scale and how it will 'work'- am now thinking object is more symmetrical than I had believed to be the case.
5) Started on right hand side and then tried to do a reflection of this on left, top is fairly flat but perhaps mad bottom too flat and too wide.
6) Fairly happy with this but also tried something else (below).
