Ealing: Philosophers Wanted

Yesterday I was in Ealing in my own little world and heard my name being called out - the caller was Dan Williams who regularly  leads a Philosophy Course (For Everyone) at Ealing's Perceval House (just near the Town Hall).

Dan had been out leafleting the coffee shops of Ealing to get the word out about his course.

I attended the course during the early part of this year and had already (coincidentally) signed up for another run this Autumn (starting   at 18:30 on September 24th -that's a Thursday )  - You can find the enrolment details and guide here. (The Philosophy for Everyone course is on page 17).

If you've asked yourself the big questions I'd recommend joining, there's a nice atmosphere and the big bonus is you get the  chance to explore ideas that have been puzzling people for at least 2,500 years.

Here's the Flyer - you can see it's got something you can get your teeth into  but the style of the sessions is not intimidating in the least.

Big questions and big thinkers - why not engage?

And here's the venue:

Go to the side entrance and ask for Dan -(Philosophy for Everyone)

The wisdom of years

Yesterday I visited (locally)  a gentleman I met during my (and his)  participation on a local Art course.
I'm not sure of his age but it's fair to say that he's been retired for quite some years (he recently underwent surgery to have a pacemaker fitted) but this does not stop him taking an interest in various activities.

One of the things he delights in is creating artefacts yesterday we took some pictures of his 'works' it was real pleasure and hopefully more to follow.

Around and About (Ealing)

A great Sunday Lunch
Sad that the celebrated  Pizza on the Green has closed but there's still some well established places to eat - This Sunday we had a marvelous lunch at The Rose and Crown (just near St. Mary's church) - very good quality ingredients and a nice pint of Pride - Fullers are doing a great job with their West London Pubs.

Just along from PoG you can now see the building site that Ealing Broadway Station will be for next year or so as the Crossrail revamp gets under way
Premises outside the Station now closed for business

The former Café Rouge which did have a French flavour (but now closed) is now open again after quite a break.

The enigmatic name it will trade as  is 'Meat and Shake', the in place has  new management but a quite usual Grill menu - worth a try I'm sure.

No longer Rouge
But let's meet and shake?

Around Ealing

Well today we received our Council news (Around Ealing), and it is I think fair to say that the news within it is pretty much on a par with Soviet period propaganda - a horrendous increase in resident parking charges is described as restructuring and the delights of moving to a fortnightly waste collection with large ugly  wheelie bins  (unwanted by many locals) is given a positive spin.

Sad to say that their mention of the Parklet (moving to The Avenue W13 from W5 Bond Street this month) did not warrant a picture - so here's one.

The Parklet  - a way for the council to spend increased residents parking charges?

Disregard what I just said.. (Linkedin 2)

Yesterday I was singing the praises of 'hooking up' with people on LinkedIn - I was Wrong (with a capital W).

The Japanese executive seems dodgy and the supposed ex Footballer (and Lotto winner) is even worse, there are some strange things going on with LinkedIn and I doubt that it'll do their business much good - the problem is that expansion comes at the periphery of people we 'know' - people who claim to be able to vouch for 500+ people are not the best judges of character and to then get  the addition of get rich quick hucksters is a recipe for trouble ...
Looks too good to be true?

Look what  pretend Terry Bradbury  offered  - does it sound like an Ex UK Footballer of  74 years of age who has won a shed load of money? (no!)

So no half a million pounds for me - but you can see that it's a well tried plan -shame the execution is so poor.

[I've reported the potential scam to LinkedIn and hopefully they'll keep me in the loop on their actions.]

"Hello Timothy  Bourne ,

We are most grateful for your email and I use this as a medium to say thank you for writing Back. This is a lifetime opportunity and 100% legitimate. My name is Terry Bradbury, i decided to make sure the winning of ours is put on the internet for the world to see. This was a gift from God to me and my entire family. We may not know you, but since you were chosen by God to receive this cash donation of 500,000.00 GBP, you must be a God fearing individual. I do believe that good things happen to those who wait upon the lord. At first when I received a call that we have won, I did not believe, thinking it was just a mere joke until the cheque of (£ 5,517,016 million GBP ) was given to us willingly as won. The main reason why we decided to share part of this fund among other individuals who are in need is according to the bible that teaches about given as part of Godliness and also with the prophecy we received from God Almighty. I have taken care needs of our immediate family members & friends, Hospitals & Charity Organizations in Africa, Asia and Europe that fight cancer, Alzheimer's and diabetes.
We also do believe in the part of the Bible that says ask and you shall receive and consistently I have always asked for a miracle from God. I am hoping that you will definitely be able to use this fund wisely and judiciously on projects that will last you for a long time. To facilitate the disbursement process of the funds and all the legal documents that will be signed and entitle to you, the below details will be needed;
