Lights, action and mulch

Neat light with charger and battery bargain at  £35

Of course not everything about the internet is great but it fantastic for getting 'things' this little light is perfect as a 'fill' for taking pictures of people and arrived promptly and works - would have been nice if supplied with a 'shoe' adaptor to enable it to sit on a tripod - but that's ordered now too

Seems an absolute bargain too it's called  Hakutatz LED portable photography videography light and was just £35 from UK Ebay seller 'Blue Dimensions' including good packaging and prompt shipping.

Mulch

I'm not sure how long ago I got our first consignment of wood mulch from local tree feller - seems that it's very popular (free is an even better price than £35)  - wonder if the whole site will rise a few inches.

Don't put this type it on your crops until it's stabilised - chemical reactions going on and I could see steam rising today.

So first of all sorry if you were on the  Northfield Avenue  this afternoon and got slightly delayed - I feel a little responsible ..

Our story begins

About 2 weeks ago I spotted Red Squirrel pollarding in Argyle Road - they were busy and of course the by product of such work is woodchip.

fast forward a week or so and as I walked back from Plot 202 one of the  Red Squirrel guys who was waiting in traffic asked me if I'd like some mulch for the allotments - I gave him my contact details and finally we were able to today schedule a drop.

In fact getting the woodchips from a local tree surgeon is one of those win win situations - Red Squirrel avoid a drive to the East of London and a charge - we get Mulch for our plots with minimal 'CO2 miles'.

Blimey they've all gone

I'm not needing any mulch myself but as I'd pointed out Free is quite an attractive price and there were plenty of Wheelbarrows coming out of the woodwork.

Seems people will use them for paths within their plots and after keeping the mulch for a while it can be used for helping to hold moisture around plants and trees - but do leave it a while until  it becomes neutral  and check this out..

Very impressed at how the team were able to be in and out quickly with minimal disruption  and how well they worked together - if you need any Tree work done in West London do consider them - nice guys

Buds, Mulch, Broad beans - something free and Red 213

In the fine weather (or at least when it's not raining) it's a pleasure for me to spend some time out in the fresh air leaning against a garden tool or making it look like I know what I'm doing.

I do tend to think a lot when I'm down there and there's generally someone to at least exchange a few words with.

Yesterday I observed many signs of (horticultural)  life in particular fruit trees budding.

I've put some home produced mulch around several of the trees (hoping that they're sufficiently neutral) - the idea is that the mulch helps the roots by maintain moisture.

I've planted some Broad beans out - they don't look great - which might mean that the pigeons don't feast on them - time will tell.
