Projects for 2017 - and help if you can

Party of Red and a front door too
So I suppose most of 2016 I was involved in taking Red Pictures and I'm going to do something similar in 2017 but different ..

Next year I'm going to be running two projects, a foreground one year  (365 Front Doors) and another one bubbling on in the background for the first year and then full on in Year 2 looking at 'Faith and Religion.

365 Front doors

Mail me with suggestions
I guess having spoken to a few people this is something which is eminently achievable and will continue to get me taking pictures and then thinking about them.

I'm going to set a few ground rules - basically I'll be trying to take the picture on the day or the day before the blog  and upload of the picture -and I'll keep a record of the location and something about it and the number - the locations will be skewed to West London.

I'd be really grateful for any suggestions along the way too.

I guess it could form the basis of a desktop diary/calendar too.

Religion and Faith (in a year)

All sorts of places and 'ideas'

What I'll be trying to do here is research for a 2018 project when I'll track religion and faiths - looking at Churches, Temples and places of worship.

But also the people and occasions High days and holidays along with beliefs and difference across a selection of practices and ideas - as this is going to be more complex to manage as a project I need to be prepared.

I'll be looking at constructing an agenda using diaries and online resources in 2017

Again please get in touch with ideas

Sending (and receiving) Christmas Cards and Thanks Noah

Cards opened
Well it's that time of year when we actually get post that's not bills or circulars of some form or another  -Christmas cards every day until 25th December which is nice.

The downside is that I need to send some too - in fact I shouldn't complain it's a whole lot easier than it was for my parents - I've got a spreadsheet and a label maker (for the addresses) and all I need to do is sign the card, perhaps add a one line comment for people I'm in touch with on a regular basis and a bit more for those who I only contact annually.

And more to open

I suppose the deal is that you try and put something of yourself out there and there is some sort of quasi human contact - better than nothing I'm sure.

[Look here I am moaning about it 2 years ago.]

Thanks Noah Scalin

Give it a go in 2017

What a nice guy Mr Scalin is - dropped him a line to let him know I'd completed my 365 project and he was kind enough to reply - oh and he's got a new book which could be worth checking out April next year - Called Creative Sprint - look out for it - seems it's an alternative for those who can't manage a year .

A Missing Day

The heart of my exhibition comes together

So unusually no blog from me yesterday - the reason very busy at Pop Up (16 Bond Street Ealing W5 5AA ).

Actually last full day is 22nd November

Great paintings from Helen in the Window bound to attract visitors and we're only 'Open for Business until Nov 22 so do make the most of the chance to see Local Artists.

Nice to a bunch of people who made it out on a  miserable evening for our 'Low Key- viewing including the delightful (and returning)  Beniko

Great to see returning visitor Beniko
For me it's about wrapping up my Leap Year Project and you're very welcome to watch and hear me rabbiting on about it.

A selection of what's' showing.

Diwali (Religion after Red?)

Inside an English  Christian Church
Having had a year of my Red Project - I've been thinking of a new topic and at the head of the queue for the 365 treatment is 'Faith and Belief'', before I plunge in I'm casting an eye around at religions and working out an approach.

Of course I'd like to cover the big religions and their festivals but also it'd be good to look at some of the lesser known branches and consider how they relate to people and their needs.

In West London we have many  places of worship that are now used by faiths that they were not built for.

Diwali has just finished and I see that this is a festival for Hindus and it's about the victory of light over darkness and in modern times has become something of an excuse for consumer heavy behaviour (having said that the end of the festival is about giving and charity too).

Although  mainly a Hindu occasion it's also significant for others who celebrate it like Sikhs, Buddhists and followers of Jainism

Lights at a local temple highlight the recent Diwali Festival

More 365 and Red 27

Noah's not alone
I suppose there are advantages and disadvantages to not realising that there are many others taking a look at the 365 idea (doing something each day)  -I'd not realised about 365 Project run by Ross Scrivener he is UK based and I will get in touch with him I hope
In fact the Ross version is very much on a photographic template but I had an idea the other day following a call with a friend who is big on languages - if you translated a page each day you'd soon have done a whole book!

I'm sure there are other things like this too -I suppose making a daily calendar would work too.

We all need a helping hand

A hand up not a handout (or perhaps the opposite).

Red 27

What a nice Red thought..

A kind thought and increasingly seen on 'Dustbin' day near me
