Today's entry inspired by Ian Crofton's book is Number 29 Materialism
Materialism can be taken as a rejection of the
idealism of yesterday (see the entry from then).
Materialism is the doctrine that matter
is the only reality and that the mind, the emotions and so on are
merely functions of it. Materialism is the rejection of any
religious or supernatural account of things.
The materialists have had to adapt as
more as has been learnt of molecular structure, atoms and the sub
atomic particles that have been discovered.
Karl Marx was (famously) a historical materialist .
